International Latino Book Awards 2020

A pesar de que este no ha sido un año precisamente bueno en términos globales, en el plano personal, no puedo quejarme. Encerrada en casa, he recibido varias noticias que me han aligerado el aislamiento que todos hemos estado sufriendo este año. Hoy quiero compartir la más reciente que acaba de llegarme.

Mi novela Los hijos de la Diosa Huracán había estado nominada en dos categorías diferentes (Mejor Ficción Popular y Mejor Novela de Aventura o Drama en Español) en el prestigioso certamen International Latino Book Awards que patrocina la organización sin fines de lucro Empowering Latino Futures, presidida por el actor y productor Edward J. Olmos.

Considerado el certamen más grande de literatura hispana en Estados Unidos –una especie de premios Oscar literarios–, este año contó con 96 categorías, donde cientos de libros en español, inglés y portugués fueron leídos y discutidos por un total de 214 jueces anónimos.

Espero que ambos premios sirvan para darle más visibilidad al universo de la cultura taína, la principal etnia indígena del Caribe, que muchos han olvidado.

La ceremonia transmitida desde California, aunque fue virtual este año, se extendió por más de dos horas. Comparto este video de solo 3 minutos, desde mi canal de YouTube, con los resultados de las dos categorías donde participó la novela.

Although this has not been a particularly good year in global terms, on a personal level I cannot complain. Locked up at home, I have received several news that have lightened the isolation that we have all been suffering this year. Today I want to share the most recent one that has just arrived.

My novel Los hijos de la Diosa Huracán (The Goddess Hurricane’s Children), that had been nominated in two different categories (Best Popular Fiction and Best Adventure Novel or Drama in Spanish) in the prestigious International Latino Book Awards contest sponsored by the non-profit organization Empowering Latino Futures, chaired by actor and producer Edward J. Olmos.

Considered the largest Hispanic literature contest in the United States – a kind of literary Oscar awards – this year it had 96 categories, where hundreds of books in Spanish, English and Portuguese were read and discussed by a total of 214 anonymous judges.

I hope that both awards serve to give more visibility to the universe of the Taino culture, the main indigenous ethnic group in the Caribbean, which many have forgotten.

The ceremony broadcasted from California, although it was virtual this year, lasted for more than two hours. I share this video of only 3 minutes, from my YouTube channel, with the results of the two categories where the novel participated.
